Did you know?

  • There are nearly 19,000 children in the foster care system in Arizona with approximately 600 being removed from their homes each month.
  • 27% of the homeless population spent time in foster care.
  • 25% of youth who age out of the foster care system are incarcerated by the age of 20.
  • One in four girls in foster care give birth before the age of 20 and as many as 40% of these young mothers have a second child during their teen years.
  • Only 54% of foster children earn a high school diploma.
  • In 2013, more than 23,000 young people aged out of foster care without permanent families. Research has shown that those who leave care without being linked to forever families are highly likely to experience homelessness, unemployment, and incarceration as adults.

These staggering statistics are what inspired Phoenix locals Peter and Julie Bartolini to establish Firm Foundation Youth Homes for boys and girls. For the past 12 years these two have made it their first priority in life to help kids who have come from harsh backgrounds. Their vision is to raise children who have been abused, neglected, and abandoned in a safe environment where they are free to grow, share and learn. Their goal is to end the cycle of trauma in the lives of these disadvantaged children by giving them a foundation of trust and mutual respect that they can use to create and maintain healthy relationships throughout their lives. The solution to these ideas includes a mixture of environment, community, and people. They want these kids to know that their services aren't just a bed. The environment they create for these children specifically addresses their physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual needs. Offering homes in "kid-friendly" neighborhoods with good schools, parks, and communities establishes the warmth associated with a long-term home. An extensive network of donors, tutors, and mentors ensures that these kids have proper support systems to help guide them through their lives. Finally, staff, volunteers and outside agencies are called on to support and execute Firm Foundation's model of care, which is tailored to focus on each kid as an individual, and not just a number in a system.

Recently, Lost + Found Resale Interiors has had the privilege of working with Firm Foundation Youth Homes via consignment. We've taken into our inventory a lovely home office set by aspenhomeTM that was once used in one of their group homes. Here at L+F we are always looking to give back to our community, and working with Firm Foundation has truly been a pleasure.

We are proud to announce that we will not be accepting our consignment split, and instead will be donating 100% of the proceeds back to Firm Foundation Youth Homes.

So let's take a look at these awesome pieces!

We've split the set into two separate groupings, both of which are aspenhomeTMAspenhomeTM is a line based in Phoenix that has evolved from a small, family owned home entertainment business into a full line furniture company that specializes in several products. AspenhomeTM has received a number of awards and recognition for their products, including: 7 Pinnacle Design awards, Consumer Digest's Best Buy for home entertainment, Home Furnishing's News Award of Excellence for entertainment, and Furniture Today's 2008 Supplier of the Year.
