Sid Dickens Memory Blocks

Sid Dickens Memory Blocks are best displayed in wall-mounted groupings. The size of the groupings is unlimited. One prominent collector displays 80 Memory Blocks in the foyer of her home. You can start with a single tile and build your collection according to your budget. Unlike static works like paintings, Sid Dickens Memory Blocks can be grouped in many arrangements of different sizes, shapes and sequences. As your decorating needs, feelings and moods change, your display can also change.

These Memory Blocks provide an affordable way of decorating your home with hand crafted original works of art at a starting price far below that of posters, prints or paintings.

Installing

No framing or installation costs are required. Only the simplest measurements are necessary. Each Memory Block back has been finished with an angled aperture. All you need to do is position a small tack, screw or nail in the wall and hang the tile. No additional supports, braces or mounts are necessary. Any individual can hang them.

Stop in to see our recently consigned Sid Dickens Memory Blocks.  Some styles have been retired and sell on ebay for $150 each.

Dresser to Vanity Cabinet

One of the more popular items in the store is our vanity cabinet in the restroom.  You can easily convert most dressers into this type of vanity cabinet by following these easy directions:

1) Buy a Drop in sink, or a round vessel sink with a diameter that is smaller than the vanity top.  You will have to remove the top drawer and measure the actual space underneath to see the maximum dimensions.  There are usually support studs that need to stay intact, so measure inbetween those pieces of wood.  Purchase water & drain connectors.

2) Buy Faucet.  If a vessel sink, make sure the spout will clear the side of the bowl.

3) Drill a hole in the top of the cabinet for vessel sink drain, or cut a larger hole for recessing a drop-in sink, or partially recessing a vessel sink.

4) Drill hole for faucet- (we offset ours because our sink was large and there wasn't room for a faucet behind sink).

5) Place Sink in opening, hook up drain.  Caulk around sink.

6) Place faucet in faucet hole and hook up to water supply.

It really is that simple!  We currently have a white shabby dresser and a vintage tiger oak dresser that would work nicely!

Lost + Found Sign Dancer

Shortly after opening my High End Consignment Furniture Store here in Scottsdale, I realized I needed to attract more attention to the shop.

So I hired a Sign Spinner...Or so I thought!

I will never forget the first day he arrived- tall and lanky with a matter of fact manner that was nearly as big as his moustache.

"Hi, I'm your Sign Guy" he said with a smartass grin. "Where's your sign?" "Oh, My Sign Spinner" I exclaimed, excited at the thought of him spinning, twirling and flipping my sign-drawing in large crowds to browse and buy.

"No Ma’am, I don't spin", he stated in his flat matter of fact style. My hopes sank a bit. "You see ma’am, if you've got a car traveling at 30 to 40 miles per hour, they have just a few seconds to see your sign then decide if they want to turn in. If I flip your sign around, what do they see... Nothing but a circus act; they smile and drive on by. I don't spin, I'm a sign guy. I just hold it up so they can read it really well." I was schooled!

In his ad and emails to me he'd assured me he would "...engage passing traffic in an enthusiastic energetic fashion..."

And now he's telling me he doesn't spin...just holds the sign so they can read it...?!?!

Alarm bells begin to ring within, but I took a breath (several) as he looked my sign over.

Squeezing the foam that ran around the edges of the sign he stated, "Hmmm...I'm gonna destroy this stuff." Not even a hint of remorse in this prophetic remark, just this flat- this is the way it is- style. "...gonna destroy..." I just paid quite a bit of money for my sign. Now the alarm bells rang loudly as he bounded out the door with my perfect sign in his grip.

I reasoned it out...We had not signed a long term contract. I can find a sign spinner soon and just replace him, but for that moment I was stuck. I only hoped people would come in even if he wasn't "spinning" my sign.

Well, that first day the people did come in. So much that I didn't have time to watch my sign guy work his "magic."

Jumping, dancing, running up and down Greenway-Hayden Loop he waves, points and gyrates his way into the hearts of everyone who drives by. All the while, holding my sign so that everyone could read it really well!

His first day was many months ago, and he still brings the majority of my customers into my shop!

If you're in the area we would love to have you as our guest, but if you don't have time to stop, at least drive by and see my Sign Guy Steven...he's the best in town and he's sure to bring a smile to your heart!

P.S. - If you honk, he will dance for you!
